The Prime Minister and the Zimbabwean president were among 134 leaders attending dinner at the Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen, hosted by Queen Margrethe of Denmark.
British and Danish officials refused to say where each leader would be seated at the dinner. British officials made clear Mr Brown had no intention of talking to the Zimbabwean leader.
The leaders started with scallops before going on to turkey with tarragon sauce and pea puree. For pudding they were offered date cake with caramel sauce
The leaders were also served wine from the Prince Consort of Denmark’s private vineyard in France.
For entertainment, the Danish Royal Life Guards Bands played to the assembled leaders, playing tunes including Here Comes the Sun by George Harrison and Here’s That Rainy Day, which was made popular by Frank Sinatra.
