Raise the standard of your game

As we progress in life we go through different levels of experiences. There are different levels of success, prosperity and health. On other spectrum, there are also levels differing; levels of failure, poverty and disease. There are levels varying from education, sport, politics and religion. Even lines of authority are rated in terms of rank.
In politics there are those who participate at ward levels and those whose influence go beyond continental borders. In sport, there are some who participate for fun and others who participate at world championships. In music and entertainment there are those whose voices cannot be appreciated beyond their neighbourhoods while at the same time international voices that transcend cultures and people groups do exist.
Greatness, being part of everything also has levels. There are many people who take pleasure in manipulating the less privileged or enjoy competing against those that are far below their capacity for execution. The downside of this kind of behaviour is that when plunged among their peers of equal rank do act like mice among cats. The reason why many people have failed to realize true greatness is their satisfaction in celebrating success in small matters or rather celebrating greatness in smallness. Greatness becomes truly great when realised among the great ones.
Instead of elevating yourself among those of lesser capacity, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to consider raising the standard of your game, to be counted where it counts. Keeping yourself in belittling environments tends to ingrain within your system a dwarf mentality. Dwarfism assimilates the “crabs in a bucket mentality.” When one crab is put in a bucket it quickly crawls its way up the bucket and off it goes. A different scenario when there are two of them in the same basket; they surely die inside. Once one tries to climb up the other drags it down and the cyclical pattern continues until they all die inside.
It would be really futile for doctorates to succumb to the temptation of parading their knowledge among the uneducated. Common sense would call for them to compete among their fellow doctorates. Instead of taking pleasure in shining among lesser stars why don’t you consider playing your game among the great ones so that you realise you full potential. Complacency stunts your growth. Most people expend considerable amounts of energy impressing the wrong people.
It is not worth the effort to strive for a position at lower level unless you are taking it as a stepping stone. Go for real greatness and do not be satisfied with almost greatness. Many people get complacent after a few victories notwithstanding there is plenty of room for improvement. Some of the successes that we celebrate are nothing compared to what we are capable of achieving. It is sometimes said that success is the enemy of progress, because once some people succeed in an endeavour, they sit there and never think of progressing.
Whatever your are good at, consider playing at an international level. Dare to take your skills to real competition thus raising the standard of your game. Be a success among the truly successful ones.
